Shetland is a crime drama TV series released in by BBC in Scotland. The main character of the show is portrayed by Douglas Henshall. He acts as Jimmy Perez, an experienced and thoughtful Detective Inspector. The action revolves on Shetland archipelago; however, most of the filming was done in Scotland. The series is almost fully based on the novels written by Ann Cleeves. Shetland season 4 release date is yet to be scheduled, however BBC One has already made an official announcement about the continuation.
Production
Two pilots were released to start season 1. They were based on a novel consisting of two parts entitled Red Bones and written by Ann Cleeves. The pilots were released on the 10th and 11th of March 2013. Later BBC ordered the series for season 2 to be released in 2014. Season 2 was filmed on the base of three novels by Ann Cleeves’ entitled Raven Black, Dead Water, and Blue Lightning. The producers started to film in 2015. Season 3 started filming on the 15th of January 2016.
Cast & Characters
- D.I. Jimmy Perez is portrayed by Douglas Henshall. Moves back to Shetland after the death of his beloved wife. Deeply cares about his daughter Cassie willing to create a happy and secure home for his family. Cassie gets to Glasgow University and Perez tries to add more value to his life. When a shocking case demands his attention, he gets back to it with passion. In every new episode he puts his mental and psychological abilities to the test while dealing with hardest of criminal cases.
- D.S. McIntosh referred to as Tosh is portrayed by Alison O’Donnell. Does her best to become a vital part of Shetland’s community and cooperate with Perez. The new case will never let her life stay the same.
- D.C. Sandy Wilson is portrayed by Steven Robertson. Born in Shetland. One of the most important persons in Perez’s investigations. Tries to get balance between being a caring father and a loyal partner in his professional life filled with tense investigations.
- Cassie Perez is portrayed by Erin Armstrong. Enjoys freedom and new romantic relationship. Her step-dad, Perez, is one of her closest friends. She’s the aim of his existence since her mom died.
- Duncan Hunter is portrayed by Mark Bonnar. A birth father of Cassie being in tense relationships with Perez. However, in the course of the series, it turns out that he’s actually a caring parent. He’s always there for his daughter when she needs it.
4th Season Air Date
The fourth season of Shetland was officially announced in summer of 2016. The upcoming fourth season will be made up of six parts. The producers plan the release for the beginning of the upcoming 2017. The 4th season release date of Shetland hasn’t been announced by BBC One channel yet.
