Mostly, the show is about the midwives’ life as well as certain events that really took place in that period that somewhat had an impact on the main characters. The events include the immigration, the introduction of some methods for relieving pain, and other.  The show also brings to light a range of problems, for instance, abortion, alcoholism, prostitution, poverty, birth defects, incest, homosexuality, and other.

Story

The show begins with the arrival of the main character named Jenny Lee to the place of action — Nonnatus House. She is a qualified midwife and after starting working she soon understands that she has to adjust herself to the harsh conditions. Jenny also meets other midwives. She becomes friends with a certain woman but often witnesses a bad attitude toward them. As the story progresses, the main character also meets other women who tell her the stories of their life. The woman all the time encounters various medical problems related to her work and she is very upset about that. The midwives had to carry out lots of duties across the area. Each month about up to one hundred babies are born, and the midwives had to do everything to provide a safe childbirth and help the mothers to take care of their children. Each episode brings something new to Jenny’s life, and often it is difficult situations that she has to solve.

The episode 1 of the show has gained about 10,000,000 views. The success of episode 2 has reached an even better result, and the third one has obtained about 10,660,000 views. The next episode has received 10,890,000 views. On Metacritic score, the show has received 8.0/10.
