Bates Motel is a horror TV series created and released in the USA. The developers of the show are Carlton Cuse, Kerry Ehrin, and Anthony Cipriano. The production is carried out by Universal TV for A&E network and their channel. The plot of the show serves as a prequel to one of the cult horror films of the 70s titled Psycho. It’s one of the most famous and successful films ever created by Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock, in his turn, based the plot on a novel written by Robert Bloch. The title of the novel is the same. The series follows everyday life of Norman Bates, an enigmatic teenager and his caring mom named Norma. The action takes place in a fictional town of White Pine Bay situated somewhere in Oregon. There’s only one detail that makes the series different from the original – the plot is set nowadays. However, the critics and the viewers agree that the atmosphere matches to the one created by Hitchcock in his film and Bloch in his novel.
Production & Release Dates
A&E decided not to release the pilot and started with airing of the first season consisting of 10 episodes. The first season release date is the 18th of March 2013. The leading actors of the cast (Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore) were praised for perfect performance. Freddie Highmore got a nomination in Primetime Emmy Award.
Plot
The plot starts to revolve in Arizona, where Norma experiences one of the most tragic moments in her life – her husband’s death. Together with her son named Norman, they decide to move to Oregon to have a fresh start in life. In the course of the series, it turns out, that Norman is actually dangerous because of the mental illness that he cannot control. Norma does her best to protect her son and people who surround him. However, she’s not able to keep the situation under control. What she gets is a number of circumstances provoked by her son leading to even more tragic situations. The trouble is that Norman has no idea that another personality inside of him is a real disaster threatening to the society. The filming of the show is mostly done in British Columbia.
5th Season Air Date
On the 15th of June 2015, Bates Motel was officially prolonged for seasons 4 and 5. It’s the longest series ever aired and produced by A&E’s.
