General Overview
The Great British Bake Off is a popular British reality TV cooking competition project. Real people from all over the world battle for the crown of UK’s Best Amateur Baker. The first release of the project was in August 2010. It was firstly broadcast on BBC Two and later was pushed to BBC One. The producers of the project are Anna Beattie, Kieran Smith and Richard McKerrow. There are 54 episodes in the series plus 28 special episodes.
Plot, Cast and Crew Details
The show itself is the process of elimination in the on each level of competition. The aim is to choose the best baker from the participants (all of them are amateurs). At first, those who wish to participate make an application. Then they get assessed and chosen through the audition in London. They pass through some tests and an interview. In the second part of the audition, applicants bake two dishes for the judges filmed on camera. 10 or 12 contestants are chosen.
In every episode, the bakers pass through three competitions. They are: a signature bake, a technical challenge, and a show-stopper. The contestants compete for two days. The contestants are filmed for 16 hours each day of the competition. Two judges choose a star of the week and eliminate one of the contestants. In the end of the show, the judges use one of the bakers out of three left.

Facts and More
- In the 3rd season of The Great British Bake Off, John Whaite cut his finger with the food processor and didn’t manage to finish the bake. He tried to use a glove, but there was too much blood and he had to leave the competition for medical attention. This week the judges decided not to eliminate anyone.
- In the 4th season of the project Deborah made a mistake while cooking and used Howard’s custard and not her own. Judges paid attention to that while making their choice.
- In the 5th season of the show, Iain Watters had troubles with his dish – his ice cream melted without visible reasons. He got frustrated and threw it into a rubbish bin. It provoked his elimination and the viewers’ anger afterwards.

The premiere episode of the 6th season of The Great British Bake Off was aired on BBC One channel in August 2015. The show became a real hit in Great Britain. Many of the contestants started a successful career in bakery. The 7th season is very likely to be filmed cause the ratings are great. BBC hasn’t made an official announcement yet.
