Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is a computer-animated American project planned to be released in summer of 2017. That’s an animated comedy film that bases its plot on a series of novels with the same title written by Dav Pilkey. The production matters are carried out by DreamWorks Animation together with Scholastic Entertainment. The animation is done by Mikros Image. The direction matters were carried out by David Soren. Plot
The main character (voiced by Ed Helms), gets transformed into a kind-hearted helpful character after the hypnosis. He becomes a true hero called Captain Underpants.
Production
On the 20th of October 2011, there were official reports from DreamWorks Animation about their plans for the creation of an animated movie on the base of a series of novels by Dav Pilkey. The official rights were purchased and the production started. On the 25th of October 2013, Rob Letterman was reported as the director of the film. Nicholas Stoller was invited to work on the script. That’s the second project where Letterman and Stoller work in collaboration (the first one was Gulliver’s Travels). On the 21st of January 2014, all official voice cast was announced:
- Ed Helms joined the cast to share his voice with Mr. Krupp/Captain Underpants;
- Kevin Hart was invited to portray George Beard;
- Nick Kroll portrayed the character with the insidious villain named Professor Poopypants;
- Jordan Peele was announced to share the voice with Melvin – George and Harold’s nemesis.

On the 12th of June 2014, the release was finally scheduled. The producers initially decided to give the project a go on the 13th of January 2017. After the reorganization of DreamWorks Animation the project was moved to Mikros Image. In a month, Letterman decided to leave the project. The release date was later pushed to summer of 2017.
