After the release of Ushio and Tora on 3rd July 2015, the anime series gained an immediate popularity. In fact, success like this often means that the show is going to be continued for more episodes and even seasons. So, why don’t we look inside Ushio and Tora and see if it was renewed for the second season, and when it is possible to expect season 2 premiere.
The case of Ushio and Tora is rather exclusive. First of all, right after the premiere in early July 2015, the series was continued by the executive team. Secondly, not less than five Japanese TV channels broadcast Ushio and Tora (KBS Kyoto, BS Fuji, Sun TV, TV Aichi, and Tokyo MX). Thirdly, international TV channels have also bought the right to air the series, these were Anime Digital Network (France) and Crunchyroll (USA). The show will come out on DVD very soon, delivered by Sentai Filmworks.
Ushio and Tora — The boy and the demon friendship
The central story of the anime series is at the same time original, captivating, touching, and very funny. It starts with a chance meeting of a young rebellious schoolboy and a powerful demon who (as the boy thinks) resembles a fierce tiger. As a result, what’s even more unlikely, the demon obliges to serve the boy and help him both deal with other demons and manage the uneasy task of going to school. What makes Tora obey Ushio is a magic spear which can keep any monster restrained. With time, Ushio and Tora develop a curious friendship, and the only misunderstandings between them happen when Tora gets overwhelmed by the desire to eat the boy. Despite the comic character, Ushio and Tora raises a number of serious social and relationship issues.
Ushio and Tora: reception and renewal
The first season was received incredibly well, in spite of its rather simple graphics. But that is secondary compared by the story itself, its emotional intensity and slightly controversial details. The characters are overly adorable and are destined to captivate the hearts of many. This is probably the reason why the show Ushio and Tora has been renewed immediately after its very start.
