War with Grandpa

War with Grandpa is a family comedy film planned to be released in the middle of autumn 2017. The plotline of the film is based on the novel written by Robert Kimmel Smith with the same title. Lisa Addario and Tom J. Astle were invited to create the script for the film while Tim Hill dealt with direction matters. The upcoming film is based on the book written for kids by Robert Kimmel Smith published in 1984. The main character of the book and of the film is a boy who has to let his grandfather use his room after the divorce. The boy is unwilling to act the way he doesn’t want to and together with his friends, he’s ready to do anything possible to make his granddad surrender the room. The cast includes Robert De Niro, Marisa Tomei, Christopher Walken, Eugene Levy, Laura Marano and others. Unfortunately, it turns out to be extremely tough. War with grandpa begins. One of the last films with participation of Robert De Niro was Dirty Grandpa. It received numerous negative reviews but De Niro is sure the projects has the future.

Plot

Peter, the main character if the film, feels worried about his grandpa getting back home after the death of his wife. He’s getting back to live together with the support of the members if his family. He moves into the room of Peter, which drives him crazy because he has to move to the guestroom situated upstairs. Actually, Peter loves his grandparent, but his room is his personal territory and he’s willing to get it back. There’s nothing he can do but start a real war with his grandpa. He asks his friends to help him get rid of the tough acting elderly relative. However, one day Peter realizes that their war brings no sense to their relationship. Grandpa realizes it too and decides to rebuild the basement to turn it into a place where it’s possible to live. What will it lead to?

That’s the second film where Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken act together. The first one was The Deer Hunter released in the 80s.
