The Mummy is a fantasy adventure project created by American filmmakers and planned to be released in the beginning of summer 2017. The direction matters are carried out by Alex Kurtzman and the script is written by Jon Spaihts together with Christopher McQuarrie. The new film is planned as a reboot of the well-known and highly successful franchise. This film is planned to be the first part. Plot
The central character of the film is a princess from the ancient times portrayed by played by Sofia Boutella. Thousands of years ago, she was mummified and deprived of her future. She was buried in an ancient tomb deep down under the sands of a vast desert. She comes to life in the modern world bearing a grudge against the humanity and someone should do something to prevent her from doing the destruction.
Production
On the 4th of April 2012, there was an official announcement from the Universal Studios about the development of a new version of The Mummy film that is planned to be the first part in a newly revived franchise. Jon Spaihts was invited to write the script for the film and Sean Daniel dealt with production matters.
On the 1st of May 2012, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman signed a two-year contract for the production of the film. On the 24th of September 2012, Len Wiseman was announced as the director. In December of 2012, it was rumored that The Mummy is not going to copy the plotline of the previous films. It will be a completely new version adjusted to modern day realities.
On the 14th of February 2013, Universal Studious asked the writer of The Hunger Games named Billy Ray to work on Spaihts’ script. In October of 2013, it was hinted that The Mummy and Van Helsing revivals will share one universe.
On the 16th of July 2014, there was an official announcement about Kurtzman and Chris Morgan helping with the development. They’ve already worked with a monster of Frankenstein, with Count Dracula, with The Invisible Man, and The Mummy.
On the 30th of July Kurtzman was announced as the director. In the middle of October of 2015, it was announced that the Mummy character will be portrayed by a woman. Tom Cruise joined the cast in November of the same year. In January of 2016, Sofia Boutella signed in to portray the character of the Mummy. In March of 2016, Annabelle Wallis joined the cast together with Jake Johnson. Courtney B. Vance joined the cast in April.
The Mummy Release Date
Universal Pictures initially planned the release for the 24th of March 2017. Later the release date was pushed to the 9th of June 2017.
