Sometimes films that are based on computer games become extremely popular. That was the case with Resident Evil, a super popular franchise whose sixth installment the fans all over the world are waiting impatiently. Let us try and see when Resident Evil 6 will be released.
Resident Evil & its origins
Originally, Resident Evil is an adventure & action horror game by the game designer Shinji Mikami and developers of the studio Capcom. In 1997, Constantin Films got interested in the game, which led to the script being carefully written and rewritten, the filming being done, and the first movie released in 2002. Milla Jovovich was chosen as the actress to play Alice, the protagonist in the games.
The plot of Resident Evil franchise
The main hero is Alice and her allies, and the ultimate anti-hero is the Umbrella Corporation, a bioengineering company which makes bioweapons. The Hive, a top secret facility, is controlled by the Corporation which, among everything else, has released a T-Virus that turns humans into zombies. Alice, once an agent for the Corporation, finds herself fighting on the side of the rebels who want to free the Racoon City from the virus and the Corporation.
Resident Evil: timeline
Resident Evil was released in 2002. Its box office was three times greater than its budget ($102.5 million and 33 million, accordingly), which made it possible to produce the sequel. A lot of people were disappointed by the film due to weak storylines, bad acting, and primitive dialogues (despite the fact that the script was re-written — first by George A. Romero and then by Paul W. S. Anderson). However, the film immediately gathered a base of loyal fans who were super eager to see the second chapter on the big screens in the theaters.
The previous film, Resident Evil V (Resident Evil: Retribution), was released in 2012. It cost a total of $65 million, which was greater than each of the previous chapters. Resident Evil VI was supposed to start in 2013 and go out on the screens in 2014, but Milla Jovovich got pregnant again and had to postpone her acting.
About Resident Evil VI
Right now, the sixth film is being made. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is expected in 2016 and it will conclude the story of Alice and her friends. It has the budget of $90 million, the main actress, and the script (or at least the draft). In the movie, Alice goes to the Oswell E. Spencer’s (Umbrella’s director) place and continues to fight the corporation. She has assistance of Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, Becky, Ada Wong, and also Charlie, Chris, and K-Mart.
