Basing on the real story, the upcoming movie will serve as another adaptation of the event in the history of American tennis sports. Yet in 2001, the TV movie entitled “When Billie Beat Bobby” was launched to portray this story.
In 2013, New Black Films created a documentary movie Battle of the Sexes for theatrical release at first and then for television broadcast. James Erskine and Zara Hayes came as directors there.
This post enlarges upon the movie announced yet in April 2015 by Fox Searchlight. At the helm, there are the directors named Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. Among the star performers playing the central conflicting roles are Emma Stone and Steve Carell. The remaining acting cast includes the following names:
- Elizabeth Shue,
- Jessica MacNamee,
- Sarah Silverman,
- Alan Cumming,
- Natalie Morales,
- Mark Harelik and many others.
The companies behind the development are Cloud Eight Films, Fox Searchlight Pictures, and Decibel Films. The expected movie is a mixture of genres, including sports drama, comedy, and biography.
Plot Summary
The story will appear to prove to us that professional sportswomen can compete with their mal colleagues on equal rights. The narrative touches the legendary match between 55-year-old American champion tennis player Robert Larimore Riggs and his female colleague 29-year-old Billie Jean King. That match is called as the movie is titled now – “The Battle of Sexes”. Precisely, this was the second one among the three worldwide famous matches set between other champions of different sexes in the previous century. Airing in 1973, that match gathered about 50 million Americans in front of their screens. The cinematographic adaptation of the story is expected to be suspenseful, emotional, and compelling, to convey the intensity of that situation as fully as possible.
